2016 Must Start Early!

Some of you may know I was slowed down in 2015 by a need for Rehab, and a day job search that began to take over my life. That’s how hard it is to find a job in Seattle these days!

These things, and a few other special, secret influences, slowly made it extremely difficult to enter the altered states of consciousness from whence the stories flow. Its a miracle Morna: A Celtic Tale of the Selkies made it out into the world when it did. I hope you have all gotten your copies for 99 cents. Please leave a review! The price increases to $2.99 on December 1st.

Some of you may also know that I have been a professional Astrologer and Psychic for many years. The celestial influences have not been kind to me. The first half of the year was great in many ways, but Mercury went retrograde in Libra mid-September, triggering all sorts of distasters in my Venus ruled chart. It has been Dance with Death. How many things can you lose at once and still be on the planet?

One thing I know needs to change in this blog. I feel my entries on here are quite boring. Too businesslike and not really me. That is because all my creative energy goes into writing the novels and I don’t have much left over for the blog. My Winterspells: Life on the Magical Path, Legacy of the Witchblood blog was quite another story, but I wasn’t writing fiction when I was working on it. Go here: http://www/houseofwinterspells.com. Its also in the tab under Magic. All that stuff is woven into the novels now. The posts are really good though, if I do say so myself.

This blog was gaining great popularity when I bailed on it. Silly me! I didn’t see how it could turn into a writing blog at the time. Now I do.

I’d like to do a podcast in 2016. This is a matter of getting the technology together so there is no fan hiss.

I also need to return to the novels I had planned for 2015. I may get The Vampire’s Bride finished by New Year. Its a novella, sequel to The Vampire’s Mirror. That one took me two weeks to write. This one could make it through!

Then I have the first draft of Dark Reliquary. Its a big project, but it goes well.

Sovay: Prelude to The Lady in Yellow, is in first draft as well. These two books could get finished early next year.

The second Poppy Farrell book, Taller Than Our Souls has been a bear. It got stuck in the middle and I haven’t been able to unravel it. This was actually demoralizing for me. I’d never had writer’s block before.

So these are the plans I can stick to so far. If I got these books out, it would feel great and there would be three series with more than one book in them. Lol!

Please pray for me to stay motivated and you’ll have more to read from me. Let me know what you would like to see for 2016 from me, as well.

Here’s a good winter read!

2015—Don’t Make My Head Hurt!

I say this because in my quest to write two short stories, one for the Dominion of Dreams collection and one for fans of The Lady in Yellow, I began stories that are so multi-layered, and the characters are so compelling, that they have to be developed into novels.

I have 5 of these. Unlike some Indie Authors, I have a B-type personality and can only write a new book every 3-4 months if all goes well. I wish had some that Alpha juice, but I realize every day that I don’t.

The battle for power between Dragon Queens in ancient Hungary, a Scottish noblewoman lost at sea who comes under the spell of a Selkie, a woman  who wakes in the bedchamber of the most powerful vampire who ever lived and finds herself unable to escape, an ancient bestial family curse is re-ignited with dire consequences , four British teenagers confront the mysteries of the House of Silence and the School of Night.

These themes are woven of strands of light and shadow, secret and forgotten histories that carry you into realms you might wish you had never entered…..but you do because you cannot resist the weaver’s spell…. and you’re not scared, are you?

Dark Reliquary may take all year.

Song of the Sea and Starlight could go faster now, but it needs a drop-dead cover to entice readers to such an unusual story.

The Vampire’s Bride may take a couple of months.

Sovay–-I wanted to have this out by now, but it is going too deep. Still, if it would wrap up by the end of February, I will get free copies to fans of The Lady in Yellow.

The second Poppy Farrell mystery, Taller Than Our Souls will go last and will hopefully write itself like The Shadows did.

Shall I chain myself to my word processor? I might have to.

The Shadows will be FREE from January 9-13th!!!

“Don’t go! Don’t go to Blight’s Academy!”

From the moment she enters the hallowed halls of her new boarding school, Blight’s Academy, teenage sleuth, Poppy Farrell, finds danger. From a strange encounter on a train platform, to evidence of a murdered student in the woods that surround the ancient, Gothic buildings, life at Blight’s Academy grows more menacing by the day.

Poppy and her friends, Clair and Georgie, must outwit their Shadows, older girls assigned to mentor them, but who coldly follow them wherever they go. There is a dark secret at the heart of Blight’s Academy: disappearances, deaths, and conspiracies pervade the wooded grounds, flicker in the stained glass windows, tinkle like a music box lullaby through the turreted halls…

Now I have to move a few 2014 projects to the 2015 folder. Jeeze!

Dark Reliquary Series: Roses of the Moon New Cover!

Custom Book Cover Alyne 2 Official-1

Since I am moving forward on completing this series, I decided I needed covers that go together. Like DUH! It took years for a model who looks like Lady Mara to come up. Now she has. Now Mara can look at you. She even has a fringe to cover the light that shines from her brow—an inheritance from her Dragon Queen lineage.

Book Two will be The Lucifer Tree which refers not only to the mysterious tree inside the wall-without-a-door in the heart of Castle Szepasszony where Lady Mara lives in the ruins and myst flee for her life.

Book Three—I am not sure if the title will be Queen of the Hidden Sun, or The Hidden One. I’ll have to finish it to be sure. In this one Mara has fled to the Romanian castle of Princess Borbala. There she meets, not only the half mad Princess, but Bela who has become a powerful Alchemist. Here, Mara diecovers the deepest magical secrets of her family and her true identity.

Book Four will be The Moonstone. It takes place in the contemporary times. Anna, a Hungarian girl in the London Goth scene meets a young antiques dealer, Sebastian, who has come into possession of a moonstone of great value. This find leads her back home to the Mountain of the Moon where she confronts her ancient vampyric ancestors.

Here is the Prequel cover—Dark Reliquary: Prelude to Roses of the Moon that gives some backstory to Mara’s arcane world.

Works in Progress: 2014 Planned Releases!

Yay! I have finally solidifed my publishing schedule for 2014!

It’s difficult for me to plan in advance since I never know how long a project will actually take. I am a bit slow because I have to work a day job and take care of my health—-don’t want to go the way of all writers… ahem! And life’s little challenges, of course…

I also don’t want to put a book out before its really ready. Got burned on that the first time out. (I did learn a lot though publishing those novellas. Due to reader feedback, The Lady in Yellow is now my best-selling novel and Memento Mori became The Haunted Garden: Secret of the Memento Mori, a full-length novel as well.) I could always tell when an author was writing to a deadline and not quite making it, because the endings seemed to be skimpier, or plot elements not as well thought-out as the books that made them famous. Or: the lousy sequel syndrome.

But, I digress… Here we go:

Dark Reliquary: Prelude to Roses of the Moon

Custom Book Cover Alyne Official Ebook

This Dark Fantasy of the Dragon Queens that work behind the scenes in Roses of the Moon, details the story of the Old Countess, Anastasia, and her tragic demise. She ruled on the Mountain on the Moon prior to the arrival of Countess Orzsebet, mother of Lady Mara, young protagonist of Roses of the Moon who must try to stay true to hereslf in a world distorted by evil. It also reveals the dangers of roses and the moon to Mara’s ancestresses, and what the nature of the light that shines around their heads really means.

This will be two volumes done out of this five part epic fantasy.

Also look for a new cover for Roses of the Moon that is more in keeping with Dark Reliquary as a series.

Dominion of Dreams: Gothic Faery Tales

Dominion of Dreams-1

This collection of short stories, many previously published in print or on blogs, is an extension of my other blog: Gothic Faery Tales. Some of these stories were begun on there and developed from those drafts.

We have: Drumroll please!

Thirteen: Red Riding Hood

The Keys: Bluebeard with Zombies

Lenore: Beauty and the Beast

Dollies: Cinderella

Roses, Briars and Blood: Sleeping Beauty ( due for a revision, so it will not duplicate the current version.)

The Endless Sea: Celtic Tale of the Selkie.

Due to a highly educated Scottish beta reader, The Endless Sea grew from short story to novella and will be developed into a full-length novel in the future. It has turned out to be very powerful.

Amazon’s algorithms like us to put something out at least every 3-4 months. Short pieces help us to do that because they don’t take as long to write. The Vampire’s Mirror started out as a short story and kept going. It has great reviews but hasn’t sold well. I think this is because its not Twilight related or erotica, though is has eroticism in it. It was also mis-catagorized, placing it amongst those kinds of books. I believe it has potential for traditional vampire fans, so plan a sequel, The Vampire’s Bride, and would like to get that out in 2014, God willing.

The Shadows

Terror in a remote English boarding school for girls, Blight’s Academy. But this is not the kind of thriller you expect. Fourteen year old Poppy Farrell  is far too original and independent for that! The teenage characters may scream YA, but this book is meant for adult readers as well.

At Blight’s each incoming (freshman) girl is assigned a senior girl to be her mentor, her guide and her Shadow. So why is Poppy so uneasy? What is going on in the woods that spread for acres around the school? What is happening to her roommate, Clair, and why does she disappear? Why does the actress, Diana Harrow return to Blight’s to resurrect her failing career?

And the head mistress, Mrs. Wick, why does she carry that music box around?

This story began as a screenplay. Since I have no way to get it in front of producers, I decided to make it into a novel. It is proving to be really fun to write, and easier than most.

Look for these in late summer, fall and winter of 2014! I plan some giveaways and for those on my list, FREE copies of each e-book the minute they come out.

Dark Reliquary Cover Reveal

What is the Dark Relic? What, or Who, is the Dark Reliquary?

Custom Book Cover Alyne Official Ebook

An Ancient Vampire Queen Seen Only Once in 1000 Years…

My Dark Epic Fantasy  Roses of the Moon is the first book in what was planned to be a 4 book series. After studying  what I need to do to sell more books and thus be able to make enough money to write more books and do it faster, the wisdom is to write a prequel or story related to the series that can be permanently free and hopefull draw readers into the rest of the series.

It took me a while to figure out what story to tell that I hadn’t already planned to tell in the world of Roses of the Moon: a labyrithine castle on a remote mountain in 16-17th century Royal Hungary, a realm of dark magic ruled by the ancient Dragon Queens, daughters of Lucifer and the Scarlet Queen.

Enbedded in Roses of the Moon is the tale of the Old Countess Anastasia, predecessor of Countess Orzsebet, the evil mother of my heroine Lady Mara. It’s an intriguing story and provides an atmospheric backstory to Roses of the Moon.

I thought this would be a short work, a novella. but the first draft is already the legnth of a full novel and filling in the “holes” will easily make it twice as long. So you will getting a full 100,000 word novel for free full of intrigue, romance, betrayal and vampires as the power of good struggles to take root in an evil world.

This story is turning out to be downright Shakespearean in its dark and light emotional clashes and dire consquences. I’m no Shakespeare, but I have surprised myself in the depths this story has plunged.

If Im good, this will be out by October. If I’m very good, somewhat sooner. These things always take longer than I think they will.

In the meantime, look for a short story collection: The Dominion of Dreams and another short work—I’m thinking of a sequel to The Vampire’s Mirror.
