“A vengeful witch and her fiendish servant return from the grave and begin a bloody campaign to possess the body of the witch’s beautiful look-alike descendant. Only the girl’s brother and a handsome doctor stand in her way.”
In 1960, Italian director, Mario Bava, made this masterpiece of Gothic Horror. The star, Barbara Steele is amazing as Princess Asa, a witch who is horrifically execited and buried in the noble family’s tomb, and as Princess Katya, a girl who looks exactly like her evil ancestress, Asa.
I don’t want to go into detail about the plot of this film, because I don’t want to ruin the suspense. Leave it say that Asa is brought back to life by an all too curious Professor, and begins to take her revenge.
The opening scene is so brutal, I tend to use those minutes to get a cup of tea, or something—sensitive, you see.
The rest of the film is much easier to watch, mysterious and suspenseful.
Watch it while you can! I can’t believe I found it on youtube!
This film tends to get taken up and down fro youtube. I will try to stay on top of it because it is a great classic.
